Ledger wallets are the most successful digital devices of all time. With more than 6 million sold, Ledger has become the baseline for proper crypto security including bitcoin. Value lies at the heart of the digital ecosystems as it expands, and crypto wallets have become more than just security devices but yes interfaces to explore the digital ecosystem. To enable people to access these options, it was time for security hardware to go beyond protecting private keys, and deliver a better all-round user experience for digital security.
As digital assets became increasingly popular, there was a need for a device that delivered on those basis. The challenge was to build on Ledger’s security platform while bringing the Web3 experience to life for new and existing users.
The Ledger Stax offers a completely new way of interacting with crypto, plus it has a security system that is second to none. The Secure Element is a key component of every Ledger device, and that includes Ledger Stax. For any hardware wallet, the chip is where most critical data is at, so naturally, there shouldn’t be compromises on quality. The Secure Element is a computer chip that provides security for the digital assets. The Secure Element chip’s strength comes from its specialization in cryptography. The reason the Secure Element keeps the keys so secure is that it separates the encrypted information from any application the device touches. This is the same Secure Element chip used in passports, credit and debit cards, and payment systems. That means the Ledger Stax is secured with the same chip that banks and governments use, and it’s that same level of security offered.
Ledger also developed its own secure operating system named BOLOS, another key feature of every Ledger Stax. Ledger’s secure OS means that every application exists in isolation from any other apps to avoid any point of failure and any potential attack. BOLOS also ensures that every transaction must be physically confirmed on the wallet, meaning no one can transact with it remotely or without the user knowledge.
Also another cool feature is the screen of Ledger Stax which is controlled directly by the Secure Element chip, the same secure chip that protects the private keys. This removes the possibility of malware, as the Secure Element can always verify the operating system is legitimate. With these components working together, the Ledger Stax cannot be tampered with malware. Ledger Stax is larger than the Ledger Nano – around the size of a credit card – and has a secure E Ink® touchscreen, the first of its kind. This brings two big improvements: the larger secure E Ink® touchscreen makes it easier to see and verify the transaction details and also transforms the whole device into a control interface, enabling seamless navigation and transactions. Also Ledger Stax devices are stackable. Each Ledger Stax is embedded with magnets, enabling different devices to be “snapped” together removing the necessity of generic USB sticks.
